Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one day
One, a tax collector, a thief in many ways
The other was a Pharisee, a teacher of the Law
Two men went up to the Temple to stand before their God.
 
Now the Pharisee stood up, and spoke about himself
He said “I thank you Lord, my God, I’m not like anybody else
A robber, an evildoer, like that tax collector there
I fast twice a week, and I  give more than my share.”
 
When the tax collector spoke, he wouldn’t even raise his head
He stood at a distance and just beat upon his breast... he said
“Have mercy on me a sinner, forgive me Lord I pray”
And the tax collector, not the Pharisee was justified that day...for
 
Chorus:
He who humbles himself will be exalted
He who exalts himself will surely be put down
God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble
So that those who are lost may be found.
 
So when you stand before the Lord, be careful how you pray
He is not impressed by man’s religious ways 
You see, God looks on the heart, there’s nothing you can hide
What you might think is humility, may be arrogance disguised....and
